Although not directly sports-related, the offered Free Masons “Grand Master’s Bronze Medallion” is one of the most beautiful awards offered in this collection of Ashburn memorabilia. The 12-1/2 x 15-1/2 shadowbox display features a cooper plate with a pair of brass medallions. Ashburn was a member of the Free Masons, and this honor was bestowed on him in 1992. The plaque reads, “Grand Master’s Bronze Medallion, 1992, presented to Brother Richie Ashburn, Monday September 7, 1992, Diamond Lodge No. 291 Orchard Nebraska, AF & AM, For exceptional lifetime service to the community, professional Baseball and the principals & ideals of Freemasonary by Edward H. Fowler, Jr. R.W. Grand Master.” The pair of brass medallions include a 200th Anniversary, Laying the Cornerstone, 1792-1992 to honor those Free Mason that helped build Washington, DC, and the second is Grand Master Fowler’s Medal. The piece is in incredible condition with only minute blemishes. The lower left corner of the copper plate has come loose from the wooden case but can easily be adhered with glue.
