The offered Phillies home jersey was worn and signed by right-hander Mark Leiter during the latter months of the 1997 season. With armband and patch tributes to Jackie Robinson and fallen Phillies' HOFer Richie Ashburn, the jersey details two major events that season for Phillies fans. Full description available on our website.
On his way to leading the Senior Circuit in losses for the last place Phillies during the 1997 campaign, Leiter wore this red-and-white pinstripe knit button-down garment that features “Phillies” embroidered in red cursive across the chest. In red-on-white twill, “31” is sewn to the back and left sleeve and “Leiter” is arched atop the back number. On the upper left portion of the back, Leiter's black Sharpie penning shows (“9”) quality. White-and-red striped stretch ribbed cotton lines the sleeve endings, while the left and right sleeves are respectively decorated with a black arm band with an embroidered “1” (in tribute to deceased teammate Richie Ashburn) and a Jackie Robinson 50th Anniversary patch. The left front tail is home to a “RUSSELL ATHLETIC” size “48” label, a fabric content tag and a tag whose contents have faded. All original, the item shows moderate wear, with mild dirt stains on the front.
